School Uniform
At Northgate we take pride in our school uniform and ask all parents and carers to support us in maintaining high standards.
All items must be clearly marked with the student's name.
Branded items
Available for purchase either in store on online from Coes and PMG Schoolwear.
- Northgate sweatshirt. All students are required to own a Northgate embroidered sweatshirt, which cannot be replaced by any other garment worn directly over the blouse/shirt. Students can continue to wear the Northgate branded jumper if they already have one.
- Hoodies, zoodies and other sweatshirts are not appropriate items for school and should not be worn as a replacement for the Northgate sweatshirt.
Non-branded items
Available at Coes and PMG Schoolwear and can be purchased elsewhere, as long as they meet the uniform requirements as stated below:
- Plain pale blue short-sleeved school shirt/blouse.
- Plain black traditional, straight-legged, full length, school style trousers. Acceptable styles at varying prices are available from either Coes’ Schoolwear Department or PMG Schoolwear.* (No denim, patterned material, excessive flares, tight-fitting ‘skinny’ trousers, hipsters, embellished or three-quarter length).
- * Although we do not insist trousers are purchased from these outlets, trousers that are not a plain black traditional school style will not be permitted. We therefore strongly recommend both these outlets to avoid students being told their trousers are unacceptable and parents having to buy replacements.
- Shoes that are plain black, without decoration, coloured trim or logos, and made of leather/faux leather.
- White, navy, black or grey socks.
PE kit
Students should come to school wearing their PE kit on the days that they have PE.
All Northgate branded items are available for purchase either in store or online from Coes and PMG Schoolwear.
Boys
Compulsory branded item:
- Northgate embroidered navy/cyclone blue polo shirt (AKOA branded)
Also required:
- Shorts – either:
- Plain navy blue or black school sports shorts
OR

- Northgate branded navy/cyclone blue football shorts (AKOA branded)
- Top layer for cold weather – either:
- Northgate sweatshirt from main school uniform
OR

- Northgate embroidered navy/cyclone blue reversible rugby shirt
OR

- Northgate embroidered navy micro fleece (AKOA branded)

- Sensible multipurpose sports trainers that provide adequate support and shock absorption – with non-marking soles.
From January of each school year:
- Football boots
- Shin pads
- Navy football socks
Optional items:
- Tracksuit bottoms – either:
- Plain navy blue or black tracksuit bottoms
OR

- Northgate branded navy/cyclone tracksuit bottoms (AKOA branded)
- Plain navy blue or black sports leggings worn under shorts

Other items:
- Students may wear a plain white short-sleeved or sleeveless vest underneath their shirt or blouse, but this must not be visible at any place other than the neckline.
- A plain black or dark blue head covering may be worn for religious reasons.
- Accessories such as belts and hairbands should be plain and consistent with the Northgate uniform colours.
Make-up, hair & jewellery:
- Make-up and nail polish/false nails must not be worn. Students will be required to remove make up/nail varnish/false nails that are clearly visible.
- Hair must be in the natural spectrum of hair colour and extreme styles are to be avoided.
- Jewellery should not be worn, apart from watches and a single pair of simple studs for pierced ears (no hoops, dangling designs, large gem or bling!).
- Students in Years 9 to 11 may wear one discreet nose stud.
- Any excessive or additional jewellery will be confiscated for the period of one week.
- Students will be required to remove all piercings and jewellery prior to any physical activity. We would appreciate parental support in relaying and emphasising this message to your child.
Dance Kit (GCSE Dance)
Students should come to school wearing their dance kit on the days that they have dance lessons.
- Practical dance kit which should include black sports leggings, with a skort/shorts worn over the top, and the Northgate embroidered navy/cyclone blue polo shirt (AKOA branded)
- School PE kit is perfectly acceptable, but legs are to be covered to avoid friction burns
Optional item:
- A black leotard
Second-hand Uniform
If you would like to obtain items of second-hand uniform:
- The school has a range of second-hand items available.
- If you would like to ask about this, please call or email the school with details of which items and sizes you need, and we will let you know if we have these available.
If you would like to donate second-hand uniform or any items of school equipment that are no longer needed and are in good condition, please ask your child to drop items at the main school reception.
