What will students learn?
Students will learn about visual communication and what makes an image aesthetically appealing.Students will examine the history of photography and learn traditional analogue methods in our darkroom as well as modern digital techniques and processes.The course has links to the creative industry and students will be given advice and information about careers and development within the subject area.
- Within the coursework you will learn the following skills:
- Photoshop editing skills
- How the camera works and the exposure triangle
- Digital and darkroom photography skills
- Critical Studies, exploring the work of other photographers, artists and craftspeople
What will students be taught?
You will be taught in small mixed ability groups. Teaching will involve mainly practical work but there is a requirement for a small written element to the course. Work will initially be teacher led, but as the course progresses you will be encouraged to develop your own ideas and think independently.
You will be taught in the photography room with access to a professional studio space and editing suit with Photoshop software, scanners and specialist printers. You will work with Digital cameras and photographic kit as well as learning basic darkroom techniques and processes. You will visit both local and national galleries to engage with photography and art first hand.

All work completed during the is submitted as coursework.Towards the end of the course you will have an eight-week preparatory period which leads to a 10-hour exam over two days.
